In connection with World Habitat Day, Goodhue County Habitat for Humanity will be holding an event at the 1020 Bush Street worksite (Red Wing) on Saturday, October 22, at 1:00 PM. You are invited to this brief ceremony honoring the work of Habitat throughout the world but especially in our service area. As part of the World Habitat Day celebration, Habitat for Humanity will mark a major milestone when it dedicates its 500,000th house in Maai Mahiu, Kenya. The house Goodhue County Habitat is completing on Bush Street with the Ericson-Marquez family is its 28th Habitat home and construction will begin soon on its 29th home. Habitat’s 28th Annual Jimmy & Rosalynn Carter Work Project will be held in Haiti, November 5-12, as the culmination of Habitat’s observance of World Habitat Day. Carter Work Project volunteers will build 100 earthquake-resistant homes in the city of Léogâne — considered to be the epicenter of the January 2010 earthquake.
