The Goodhue County Historical Society Annual Meeting will be held on January 27 at 2PM at the Goodhue County History Center (1166 Oak Street, Red Wing). Following a short business meeting, the program Muus vs. Muus: Holden in the Limelight will be presented by Jeff Sauve. In Holden Township in the early 1880s, Rev. B.J. Muus and wife Oline fought bitterly in court over her inheritance. Ultimately their scandalous marriage was satirized by a famous Norwegian playwright, Marcus Thrane, whose play, appropriately titled, "Holden," played to wide audiences in Chicago. Sauve will present a Powerpoint slideshow highlighting one of Goodhue County's most prominent citizens of the era and the widely-publicized marriage-row.
The Historical Society is also opening the fifteenth in its series of township exhibits that day with a free Open House from 1-4PM. Both the Annual Meeting and Open House are free and open to the public. For more information, call the History Center at (651) 388-6024.
